The Atari "VCS" 2600 was the most succesful videogame system of it's time, which was around 1978 up until the late 1980's. Originally designed to be marketed with only 10 games, its software library has flourised with THOUSANDS of titles. Many believe it was the first reprogrammable videogame system, when in fact the Fairchild Channel F was.
I bought my Atari 2600 off eBay back in 2004. When I bought it, I had no knowledge whatsoever if it would work or what condition it was in (but for someone who hacks the computers at Costco just to change the resolution on the monitors, I wasn't concerned) Once I opened the box, I saw two 2600's! The seller had 2 2600's up for auction, & I guess he couldn't sell the other one! Both turned out to be broken.
One was one of the early "heavy sixers", which had a really thick plastic casing, & It had some loose components that needed to be resoldered (I never got around to that)
The other was a later model, which had a lighter, more modern casing (A 6-switch model), & This one was missing the Channel Selection switch. I had to clamp 2 connectors together to get it working again.
